VP Leni Robredo talks about her favorite K-dramas, actors

Many of us caught the K-drama bug long before the pandemic, and it turns out that Vice President Leni Robredo is one of us!

In an interview with chef and television host Sharwin Tee on his vlog, the Vice President talked about her favorite South Korean dramas and actors, and how she became a fan in the first place.

VP Leni said the first K-drama she watched was “City Hunter,” the action series that featured Lee Min-ho and Park Min-young.

But the one that first caught her attention—and paved the way for her to K-dramas—was “Mr. Sunshine,” a historical drama that starred Lee Byung-hun and Kim Tae-ri.

“Pwedeng Mr. Sunshine. Kasi after I watched it, parang ’yun ’yung naka-entice sa akin,” she said, adding that she watched the series after learning about it from former Sen. Mar Roxas.

She also mentioned “Descendants of the Sun,” the war drama and love story led by former couple Song Hye-kyo and Song Joong-ki.

“Gusto ko talaga siya. Gusto ko ’yung twists and turns,” said VP Leni.

“Ini-imagine ko how they did it? Kung papaano nag-develop ’yung script, kung papaano shinoot. Parang ramdam na ramdam ko iyong passion ng filmmaking.”

She said she watched K-dramas when she’s out of town, traveling via bus or during long-haul flights.

In 2019, she recalled, she rode a bus going home almost every weekend because her mom was sick.

“Nagbu-bus ako papunta, nagbu-bus ako pabalik. Maraming K-drama iyon.”

However, she said she had not been able to catch up since the pandemic began. “I’ve watched a couple of shows ngayong pandemic pero hindi na kasing sigasig than before.”

Does she binge-watch K-dramas? “Bihira. May mga times na ganoon, pero ako kasi sinisingit ko lang siya.”

Asked which K-drama actors would she meet and have lunch with in case traveling is possible again, the VP mentioned those from “The Doctors” because that was her daughters’ favorite.

“The Doctors” is a 2016 medical drama that features Kim Rae-won and Park Shin-hye.

What about “Train to Busan” star Gong Yoo? “Oo si Gong Yoo, ang guwapo ’no?” she told Sharwin, adding that she liked his dramas “Goblin,” “Coffee Prince,” and most especially “Big,” where he worked with Bae Suzy.

Among actresses, meanwhile, she mentioned Park Min-young of “What’s Wrong With Secretary Kim?”, Son Ye-jin of “Crash Landing on You,” and Park Shin-hye as her favorites. – RC, GMA News
