Kenshin seen wearing black for the first time in 'Rurouni Kenshin: The Beginning' teaser

The final chapter of the live-action film adaptation of popular manga and anime "Rurouni Kenshin" is almost here, and it’s looking darker than ever.

Warner Bros. just gave fans an ominous new production still for "The Beginning," which is the last of two back-to-back films to be released later this year.

The scene features Takeru Sato, who reprises his role as the legendary swordsman Himura Kenshin, only he is dressed in black instead of his familiar red kimono.

He also wears an intense yet sullen expression as he broods over a body, samurai sword in hand.

The first live-action film, "Rurouni Kenshin" was released in 2012.

Its sequels "Rurouni Kenshin: Kyoto Inferno" and "Rurouni Kenshin: The Legend Ends" were released back-to-back two years later.

"The Final" and "The Beginning," which will tell the origin story of Kenshin Himura's x-mark on the cheek, are scheduled to air April 4 and June 4, respectively.

Warner Brothers dropped the official trailer for the films last February. —Margaret Claire Layug/JCB, GMA News
