Bridgerton's Regé-Jean Page will not be returning for the second season

Fans of "Bridgerton" must now bid farewell to the Duke of Hastings.

The official Twitter account of the show made the announcement via a notice from Lady Whistledown.

"Dear Readers, while all eyes turn to Lord Anthony Bridgerton’s quest to find a Viscountess, we bid adieu to Regé-Jean Page, who so triumphantly played the Duke of Hastings," the message read.

"We’ll miss Simon’s presence onscreen, but he will always be a part of the Bridgerton family. Daphne will remain a devoted wife and sister, helping her brother navigate the upcoming social season and what it has to offer – more intrigue and romance than my readers may be able to bear," it added.

Page retweeted the notice, saying that it was a "pleasure and a privilege."

"An honour to be a member of the family - on and off screen, cast, crew and incredible fans - the love is real and will just keep growing," he said.

On Instagram, the actor said playing the role was the "ride of a lifetime."

In an exclusive interview with Variety, Page said it was always going to be a "one-season arc."

He said that Shondaland producers told him that the role was going to have "a beginning, middle, end" and to give them a year.

"[I thought] ‘That’s interesting,’ because then it felt like a limited series. I get to come in, I get to contribute my bit and then the Bridgerton family rolls on," Page said.

"Bridgerton," an original series on Netflix, follows Daphne Bridgerton (Phoebe Dynevor), the eldest daughter of the powerful Bridgerton family as she makes her debut onto Regency London’s competitive marriage market. —JCB, GMA News
