Jo Koy to star in new Filipino-American sitcom ‘Josep’

After the successful runs of his comedy shows, Jo Koy is set to star in a new Filipino-American sitcom titled “Josep.”

According to a Deadline report on Thursday, the Filipino-American comedian will not only star in the titular role but also be the executive producer of the new ABC series.

The half-hour sitcom, which will revolve around the life of a hardworking Fil-Am nurse who navigates fatherhood and his mother moving in with him, will be written and executive produced by Steve Joe.

Hailed from 20th Television, the comedy will also be written and executive produced by Michael Golamco and Randall Park from Imminent Collision, which previously worked on Netflix’s “Always Be My Maybe.”

Jo Koy, who has risen to fame with his humor that resonates with members of the Filipino and Filipino-American communities, had his own stand-up specials with Netflix such as “Jo Koy: Live From Seattle,” “Jo Koy: Comin’ In Hot,” and “Jo Koy: In His Elements” before his series announcement.

He also recently released his new book titled “Mixed Plate: Chronicles of an All-American Combo,” where he talked about his life’s ups and downs while growing up in a mixed family and working toward his career goals. – Kaela Malig/RC, GMA News
