Fil-Am math teacher in New York raps to entertain students in online class

A Filipino-American math teacher in New York uses his rapping skills to keep his students engaged during their online classes.

In an interview with Oscar Oida in "24 Oras," Monday, Ramil Buenaventura said he does it because he understands how hard it is for students to just sit and listen while looking at their screens.

"I place myself [na] parang estudyante. 'Pag nakaupo ka lang do'n, nakikinig sa teacher, nakaka-boring. Biro mo, 40-50 minutes nakikinig ka lang. Dapat 'yung teacher, nakiki-compete," he said.

["I place myself as a student. When you just sit there and listen to the teacher, it gets boring. You see, you listen for 40-50 minutes. The teacher should be competing."]

"Kung si teacher, dakdak lang nang dakdak, talagang sabi ko, kailangan makuha ko attention nila," he added.

Because of his unique style, Buenaventura said he has been given numerous recognitions.

Meanwhile, another Filipino elementary teacher was previously recognized for combining music and culture in the STEM curriculum in Phoenix, Arizona.
