‘Squid Game’ director reveals plot for season 2

“Squid Game” director Hwang Dong Hyuk has revealed the plot for the second season of the record-breaking Netflix series.

According to a Soompi report on Wednesday, the director said in an interview that the new season would focus on the actions of lead character Seong Gi Hun, who was played by Lee Jung Jae.

The director said the focus would be on Seong Gi Hun unraveling the mysteries of the organization behind the game.

“The overarching plotline of Season 2 will be the story of the people that Gi Hun meets and the people he chases after,” he added.

Aside from confirming that a season 2 is underway, the director also revealed that he had been in discussion with Netflix for a possible season 3.

“I think we’ll be reaching some sort of conclusion [to our discussions] soon. We know that many people are waiting, so everyone is working hard to prepare for the next season with a positive outlook,” he said.

Netflix also addressed the possibility of a third season of “Squid Game,” saying: “It’s true that we are discussing a wide variety of possibilities for ‘Squid Game,’ including the production of a Season 3, but nothing has yet been set in stone.”

A decade in the making, “Squid Game” premiered on Netflix in September. It follows 456 participants who play deadly children’s games in the hopes of winning a cash prize worth 45.6 billion won or nearly PHP2 billion.

After its release, it became Netflix’s No. 1 show and “biggest series launch ever,” propelling actors to fame.

According to a Guardian report in October, the series was streamed by 142 million households and was reportedly worth almost $900 million to Netflix. – Kaela Malig/RC, GMA News
