'The Sandman' news: Mark Hamill to voice Merv Pumpkinhead!

As if we're not excited enough, Netflix just dropped major news about the live-action "The Sandman" series that will premiere on August 5.

At the Geeked Week panel over the weekend, author Neil Gaiman, showrunner Allan Heinberg, and the cast announced that none other than Mark Hamill will voice the beloved character Merv Pumpkinhead.

"We were thrilled to be able to ask and get Mark Hamill to be the voice of Merv Pumpkinhead," Allan said, answering a question from Twitter.

"He's fantastic in it and he was such a pleasure to work with. Neil and I had a day with him on Zoom and he could not have been sweeter," he said of the actor who played Luke Skywalker on "The Star Wars."

According to Neil Gaiman, Mark Hamill's "Merv is hilarious."

"That's the other thing I think that needs saying," Gaiman said.

The author described Merv in the comics, "as a kind of comic relief but also a voice of sanity, the voice of just going, 'This is actually kind of nuts.'"

"[Mark Hamill] gets to be that person especially when arguing with Patton Oswalt's Matthew. So much fun," he said.

First published in 1989, "The Sandman" is Based on the DC comic book series by Neil Gaiman first published in 1989, "The Sandman" follows Dream (Tom Sturridge), who is unexpectedly captured and held prisoner for a century, setting off a series of events that change both the dreaming and waking worlds.
