Kanye West's Grammy-worn Yeezy sneakers up for $1M at auction

The iconic pair of sneakers worn by Kanye West during the 50th annual Grammy Awards in 2008 are up for grabs.

Valued at an estimated $1 million by the Sotheby’s auction house, reports say the rapper's "Grammy Worn" Nike Air Yeezy 1 Prototypes could be the world's most expensive sneakers ever to be sold.

“The pair introduced the Nike Yeezy to the world, redefining what a signature shoe could be,” the Sotheby’s said on Instagram.

“Created exclusively for Kanye, the Air Yeezy was an entirely new silhouette – designed for an artist rather than an athlete – and paved the way for many of the artist collaborations of today,” it added.

According to the Sotheby’s, West wore the shoes at the 50th annual Grammy Awards where he performed his hits “Stronger” and “Hey Mama.” West also won several Grammys, including the award for best rap album.

The Nike Air Yeezy 1 Prototypes are on offer at the Sotheby’s via private sale from renowned sneaker collector and curator Ryan Chang.

The pair will also be on display at the Hong Kong Convention Exhibition Center until April 21. —Margaret Claire Layug/JCB, GMA News
