Saweetie pays homage to her Filipino heritage with crystal-covered gown at Met Gala

Filipino-American rapper Saweetie just paid homage to her Filipino roots at the Met Gala.

Wearing a dazzling red Christian Cowan number, Saweetie walked the star-studded soirée glammed up with a long train in different colors.

“This gown was inspired by Saweetie’s heritage, one train shows the Filipino flag, the other the Black American heritage flag,” said the caption on the designer’s Instagram account.

“The gown features 10 million hand-placed crystals which are draped to adorn her body with diamond chain and Cowan emblem embellishments,” it added.

The 28-year-old rapper rose to stardom after the release of her debut single “Icy Girl” which later earned an RIAA platinum certification.

In a previous feature on MTV, Saweetie shared how much she appreciated her fans, especially those who were Filipinos like her.

“I think it’s dope when I see my fans at my shows holding the Filipino flag because it makes me proud that I’m makin’ them proud,” she said.

Saweetie also revealed that her fans called her “Ate Icy.”
