Maureen Wroblewitz reveals her Miss Universe Philippines national costume was inspired by bangus

Maureen Wroblewitz certainly stunned netizens when she wore an intricate silver gown during the Miss Universe Philippines 2021 national costume competition.

The gown she wore not only covered her neck all the way to her feet with glistening silver fabric embroidered with jewels, but it also came with an elaborate crystal headpiece that branched out like leaves.

After the premiere of the showcase on Thursday, Maureen revealed that the silver costume was inspired by the bangus or milkfish, Pangasinan’s treasure.

Quoting her designer’s explanation behind the artwork, Maureen expressed her appreciation for his design.

“I’m in LOVE with this beautiful creation by Louis Pangilinan,” she wrote.

On his Instagram, designer Louis Pangilinan said the costume was designed to represent the “hardworking fish traders of the province” who thrived amid the pandemic.

“The elaborate ensemble was executed in an all-silver avant-garde modern Filipiñana style that includes scale-like headdress, fish fin-structured train, and silver tassel that exhibit the seven rivers of Dagupan City,” he said.
