Michelle Dee's Miss Universe Philippines national costume honors farmers

By GMA Integrated News

Michelle Dee’s national costume for Miss Universe Philippines has a meaningful inspiration behind it.

The Kapuso actress and beauty queen’s “wearable art piece” called “Gintong Ani” was designed by Michael Barassi.

In an Instagram post, Michelle said it “represents the hardworking and dedicated toilers of our fertile lands. From the golden seeds that sprout hope to grains of dreams turned success stories."

“This is a celebration of our farmers’ true treasure and their bountiful crop produce,” she added.

Michelle’s green and gold look bears crop-like pieces, beaded details, and a headpiece. Its green bralette also has gold details, and the bottom is double-slitted. Completing the look are moving leaves attached to the back of the costume like wings.

“I am Michelle Marquez Dee, proudly wearing a masterpiece made by a Filipino artist, honoring the farmers—their golden harvest, and all the amazing things they do,” Michelle said.

Michelle is representing Makati City. She took part in the 2022 competition and was named Miss Universe Philippines Tourism.

The Miss Universe Philippines 2023 coronation night happens on May 13 at the SM Mall of Asia Arena.
