Fear of loneliness is top concern for Filipinos who want to travel solo, study says

Over 76% of Filipinos said that they've either go on solo travel or are actually willing to do so in the future, according to Klook's Solo Travel survey released on Wednesday.

But 49% of Filipinos who wanted to travel solo said that their fear of loneliness was their biggest hurdle.

Klook, a travel activities and services booking platform, said, "Many travelers said they are interested in hitting the road alone, but simultaneously had reservations about potentially feeling lonely."

Aside from the fear of being lonely, Filipinos also said that planning and booking the itinerary on their own and safety concerns were their other apprehensions about travelling solo.

Over 76% of the survey respondents globally also said that they've either travelled alone or are considering to.

In the Philippines, majority of the respondents said that they wanted to travel solo because they wanted to take a break from their day jobs and from their day-to-day routines.

Aside from that, Filipinos wanted to enjoy uninterrupted "me time" or reward themselves, said the survey.

Marketing Lead of Klook Philippines, Michelle Cruz said, "Seeing how Filipinos’ travel interests are broadening from going on group trips to solo trips is definitely an exciting observation. However, we also discovered their love-hate relationship with solo travel because even if they crave for their own personal time, Filipinos are still worried about being lonely while traveling alone.”

Conducted by YouGov, the survey interviewed over 21,000 respondents from the United Kingdom, United States, Japan, Korea, China, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, Vietnam, Philippines, India, Thailand, Australia and New Zealand.
