Boracay named as a top destination for most sustainable stay this 2022

Boracay has received yet another nod as a top destination, this time for its sustainability.

According to a report on "Saksi" by Oscar Oida, Hospitality.net listed the island as one of the "Top Destinations for Most Sustainable Stays in 2022."

The article described Boracay as "the stuff Instagram dreams are made of."

It added that after a six-month closure, the island refocused its efforts and allowed its ecosystems to "start over" after suffering from the negative impacts of too many tourists.

"Boracay is now responsibly welcoming visitors again, managing volumes with a daily tourist limit. The island has also implemented an array of sustainable eco-tourism practices, including the adoption of electric tricycles, and now relies on solar power as their main energy source, seeking to ensure a long and healthy future," it said.

In April, the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) is proposing to implement a QR code system to prevent another overcrowding in Boracay.

They said setting up a carrying capacity is in line with its ongoing mission to protect and conserve the environment in the island. —JCB, GMA News
