Existing Mandarin Oriental, Manila to close; new hotel to rise in 2020


The Mandarin Oriental, Manila on Makati Avenue will close later this year, the Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group announced.

In a statement released Wednesday, the hotel said that the Group has also signed a long-term management contract to brand and manage a new luxury 275-room hotel. The new Mandarin Oriental, Manila, to be owned and developed by Ayalaland Hotels & Resorts, will also be located in Makati City and is scheduled to open in 2020.

“Mandarin Oriental, Manila has been recognized as one of the city’s most iconic hotels since its opening in 1976, and the Group wishes to express its sincere appreciation to all colleagues for their legendary service and support over the years. All hotel colleagues have been informed of the forthcoming closure and will receive full and fair severance payment and appropriate professional guidance,” said general manager Torsten van Dullemen in the statement. — BM, GMA News
