SM pulls out 'rape' shirt from stores, says merchandise 'unacceptable'

SM Group of Companies on Tuesday said it has pulled out of its department store racks all items from the consignor that distributes the T-shirt with a controversial message about rape.

In a statement sent to GMA News Online, SM said it found the message on the shirt as "unacceptable," adding that the company does "not tolerate such action."

"We have immediately pulled out all the T-shirts of the consignor that distributes them, and we are investigating why it was included in our delivery of assorted T-shirts," it said.

The photo of the shirt that says "It's Not Rape, It's A Snuggle With A Struggle" was posted on Monday by writer-poet Karen Kunawicz, who told GMA News Online that she saw it at the third floor of SM Megamall.

The photo had been shared more than 3,000 times on Facebook as of Tuesday noon.

Radio show host Sam Gogna, or Sam YG, clarified that the shirt is not part of the "Boys' Night Out" T-shirt line he has been endorsing with co-hosts Slick Rick and Tony Toni, after director Robbie Dinglasan commented that it was part of the collection of the radio show.
