DOJ dismisses estafa case vs. Gozon group as Ang withdraws complaint
The Department of Justice has dismissed an estafa case filed by businessman Ramon Ang against GMA Network chairman and CEO Felipe L. Gozon and several others over failed talks to buy a minority share in the broadcast company.
The decision was based on a "withdrawal of complaint" Ang filed with the department on August 17.
"After examining all the facts and attendant circumstances, including the subsequent return of the down payment, I have come to the decision to withdraw the complaint affidavit and voluntarily desist from prosecuting this case," Ang said.
"In view of the withdrawal of complaint by the complainant, we resolve to dismiss the instant complaint," the DOJ ruled.
Also named respondents in the original complaint were Felipe Gozon Jr., Anna Teresa Gozon-Abrogar, Ismael Augusto Gozon, Belinda Madrid, Ma. Erlinda Gana, Jaime Javier Gana, Florencia Gozon Tarriela, Edgar Tarriela, and Tricia Valderrama.
The case stems from a P1 billion down payment issued by Ang for the purchase of a 32 percent equity stake in network. – Mark Marueñas/VS, GMA News
