MiCab eyes 15,000 partner taxis this year

Newly approved transport network company MiCab is targeting to end 2018 with a fleet of 15,000 partner taxis across key cities nationwide.

"This year, we are setting to increase our partner taxis to 15,000," MiCab chief executive officer Eddie Ybañez said in a press conference in Makati City on Tuesday.

The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) last month approved the MiCab's accreditation as a transport network company along with four others that will compete with Grab, which recently acquired the Southeast Asian operations of rival Uber.

Ybañez said MiCab is targeting to add 2,000 partner taxis in Baguio, 1,500 in Iloilo City, 800 in Bacolod, 5,000 in Metro Manila, and 2,000 in Davao City in addition to the 4,000 in Metro Cebu.

He said achieving the target is only a matter of deployment since around their targeted number have already signed up with the MiCab app.

He added that MiCab is eyeing to officially launch sometime next month or July. — BM, GMA News
