South Korea to host 2020 ADB Board of Governors meeting

Manila-based Asian Development Bank (ADB) on Thursday announced that its 2020 Annual Meeting of its Board of Governors will be held in the Republic of Korea.

In a statement, the Japan-led multilateral lender said the annual meeting will take place in Incheon Metropolitan City in the Republic of Korea from May 2 to 5, 2020.

This will be the third time South Korea will host the meeting, after the meetings in Jeju Island in 2004, and the meeting in Seoul in 1970.

According to the ADB, some 3,000 participants are expected to join the event, including finance ministers, central bank governors, senior government officials, members of the private sector, and representatives of international organizations and civil society organizations.

“2020 marks the 20th year since the Republic of Korea graduated from being a recipient of official development assistance and transitioned to a donor,” said ADB president Takehiko Nakao.

“As host of next year's Annual Meeting, we are excited about the country sharing its development experiences and successes with the international community," he added.

This year's meeting will be held in Nadi, Fiji from May 1 to 5. This marks the first time a Pacific island country will host the event.

At last year's annual meeting, hosted by the Philippines, the delegates discussed the future of the global economy. — BM, GMA News
