New rails for MRT3 arrive in PHL

The brand new rails for the Metro Rail Transit Line 3 (MRT3) are finally here.

More than 4,000 pieces of the Japan-made rails, each measuring 18 meters long, have arrived at the Port of Manila on Tuesday, according to a report on GMA News' Unang Balita on Wednesday.

The Department of Transportation (DOTr) said the arrival of the 4,053 pieces of rails at the Harbour Centre Port Terminal was months ahead of the expected delivery date.

From the Port of Manila, the rails will be brought to the Tracks Laydown Yard near the Parañaque Integrated Terminal Exchange (PITX).

Installation is scheduled to start in November as the rest of the rail parts are expected to arrive in October.

MRT management said the rail replacement will take place during non-operating hours to avoid the disruption of the line's daily operations.

The DOTr said the new rails will reduce the excess vibration of trains which cause damage to electrical and mechanical components.
