'MAS MAGIGING CHILL'

MRT3 trains get 33 brand new air-conditioning units

The Metro Rail Transit 3 (MRT3) administration installed 33 brand new air-conditioning units (ACUs) bought by private contractor Sumitomo-MHI-TESP (Sumitomo), in train cars on Thursday evening, according to a public announcement on Friday.

With the recent installation of the ACUs, the MRT3 administration promised a more "chill" experience for passengers.

"Mas magiging chill na ang biyahe ng ating mga mananakay dahil sinimulan na kagabi, 21 Nobyembre 2019, ang pagkakabit ng karagdagang 33 brand new air-conditioning units (ACUs) sa mga bagon ng MRT-3!," it said on Facebook.

According to the MRT3, there were 33 ACUs that were installed in August. This marks the second installment of ACUs bought by Sumitomo.

"Sa kabuuan, 120 brand new ACUs na nagkakahalaga ng halos PhP167-M ang binili ng Sumitomo-MHI-TESP sa ilalim ng komprehensibong rehabilitasyon ng MRT-3," it said on Facebook.

In May this year, Sumitomo started a 26-month massive rehabilitation program for the MRT3 to restore the train line to its original condition.

Aside from buying the ACUs, the private contractor is also in charge of "replacing all mainline tracks, rehabilitating power and overhead catenary systems, upgrading signaling, communications, and CCTV systems, and repairing all of MRT3's escalators and elevators."

On Saturday, the MRT3 administration announced that the installation of new fiber optic cables is at a 76 % completion rate.
