PLDT, Smart launch sustainability program to fight climate change

In time for its 91st anniversary, PLDT Inc. with its subsidiary Smart Communications Inc. has launched a sustainability program to combat climate change in the country, the PLDT-Smart Sustainability group announced on Wednesday.

"Several recent international studies have warned that the Philippines is among the countries that are being most adversely affected by the changing climate [...] Let’s take action to protect our planet. And let’s create hope for a better future for our people," PLDT chairman Manuel Pangilinan said in a statement.

This was a sentiment echoed by PLDT Senior Vice President Chaye Cabal-Revilla.

“The impact of climate change affects everyone pervasively. This includes our safety, our health, our existence,” Cabal-Revilla said.

According to the statement, bazaar events were also held at the head offices of PLDT and Smart in Makati, which aims to increase sustainability awareness.

The event, spearheaded by PLDT-Smart Sustainability Group, was held at the PLDT Makati General Office. — Joahna Lei Casilao/MDM, GMA News
