San Miguel to donate P150M worth of poultry products to poor communities hit by COVID-19
Diversified conglomerate San Miguel Corp. (SMC) on Thursday said it will donate P150 million worth of poultry products as part of relief to poor households hit by the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).
In a statement, SMC said the donations will be given to poor communities where the company operates. This will bring the company's food donations to P390.7 million, and total donations to P1.147 billion.
"With the resources that we have, we are in a position to help and provide essential relief, especially to our neighbors, in these difficult times. To use these resources well and put them to good use is the right and responsible thing to do," said SMC president and chief operating officer Ramon Ang.
"Many families do not have the means to earn a living right now, so food is really a concern. By helping our LGUS and partner non-profit and charitable organizations bring food to those who need it, we hope that the most vulnerable families will have one less thing to worry about, especially since we are all mandated to stay in our homes," he added.
The San Miguel Group earlier said its food business, which carries brands such as Magnolia, Monterey, and Purefoods, would operate 24/7 amid the enhanced community quarantine (ECQ).
President Rodrigo Duterte earlier ordered an enhanced community quarantine in Luzon from March 17 to April 13. It has since been extended to last until April 30 given the rising number of confirmed cases of COVID-19.
As of April 21, 2020, the Philippines has so far recorded a total of 6,599 cases of COVID-19. This includes 654 recoveries, and 437 deaths.
