Megaworld Lifestyle Malls on Wednesday said e-commerce will be a big part of the business plans of mall operators in the Philippines to adapt to the so-called “new normal” amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

“E-commerce is going to be a big factor as we move forward and as we conquer this pandemic,” Megaworld Lifestyle Malls first vice president Graham Coates said during the Laging Handa public briefing.

“This will herald a new year of e-commerce initiatives... actually, we are working on a number [of initiatives] that will be announced in the next month or so,” Coates said.

As malls began to reopen after two months of closure, strict protocols ensuring physical distancing and prohibition of certain establishments to operate were observed.

“We have to accept that this is a very disruptive period for the mall industry... and with this disruption, often comes a lot of change,” Coates said.

“We have to innovate and react to the change in a very positive way. As a group, we are undergoing a major review of all our businesses and how we react to this new reality. I think e-commerce will be a major component on how malls will interact with their customers,” he said.—AOL, GMA News
