Cebu Pacific appeals to gov't, LGUs to allow more flights for stranded individuals

Budget carrier Cebu Pacific on Thursday appealed to the national and local government units to allow it to mount additional flights to accommodate all locally stranded individuals.

“Umaapela sana kami sa mga (local government units) at national government to allow us to mount additional frequencies because that’s the only way para makalipad ‘yong mga stranded na pasahero,” Cebu Pacific corporate communications director Charo Logarta said in an interview on Dobol B sa News TV.

Logarta said the LGUs across the country have imposed restrictions on how many flights or passengers they can accommodate into their respective jurisdictions due to the COVID-19 situation.

“Ang proseso kasi ngayon because we are still under quarantine and there’s still travel restrictions, kailangan po natin humingi ng permiso and approval of both the national and local governments para payagan makalipad,” she said.

And while the carrier would want to accommodate all the chance passengers staying overnight at the Ninoy Aquino international Airport, Logarta said the next available schedule will be in July due to the limited number of flights.

“[N]oong nag-general community quarantine na po tayo, may mga travel restrictions and kasama po doon ay hindi po pinapayagan ‘yong the same number of flights for some destinations,” she said.

“Naiintindihan naman po natin ‘yong position ng LGUs kasi need din po nating magpasok nang magpasok ng galing Metro Manila. Hindi natin sigurado na baka asymptomatic sila or biglang mag-positive sa COVID pagdating doon sa lugar,” Logarta added.

“Naiintindihan din natin ang side ng mga kababayan natin kasi wala na silang mapuntahan kaya nakikipagsapalaran sa pagpunta sa paliparan.”

Further, she said Cebu Pacific, in coordination with the Manila International Airport Authority and the Department of Transportation, continue to assist those stranded individuals in NAIA.

Logarta also urged passengers not to go to the airport without a confirmed booking.

“Kung wala po kayong confirmed flights, mag-check po muna online para mayroon po tayong confirmed booking,” she said.

Logarta also reminded those with confirmed bookings to complete all the travel documents needed such as the travel authority and medical certificate to be able to board the plane.

Meanwhile, AirAsia Philippines communications head David de Castro assured passengers that the airline is doing its best to ferry all LSIs.

"I hope our guests would understand na mayroong parating new developments when it comes to the regulations of LGUs and we want to be able to help out sa ating government partners sa pag-handle ng public health situation," he said.

De Castro added the airline will immediately advise its passengers if there will be changes in their flights.

He also said AirAsia is coordinating with the Armed Forces of the Philippines regarding the LSIs' accommodation while waiting for their flights.—AOL, GMA News
