Andrew Tan-led Alliance Global Group Inc. (AGI) is boosting its digital transformation, following the shift in consumer behavior amid the coronavirus pandemic.

In an emailed statement, AGI said it is now looking into pouring in investments into e-commerce applications to cater to the customers' needs under the "new reality."

"This pandemic is accelerating our digitalization efforts across our businesses," said AGi chief executive officer Kevin Tan.

"These involve investments in e-commerce applications, interactive customer service management, and contactless online transactions, among others," he added.

Metro Manila, along with several high-risk areas, was under the enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) from March 17 to May 15, followed by a modified enhanced community quarantine (MECQ) until May 31.

A general community quarantine (GCQ) was put in place from June 1 to 15

, which has since been extended until June 30.

Data released by the central bank showed that the e-payment transactions grew by over 250% in terms of volume in April, the first full month of the enhanced community quarantine.

"Now that the economy has slowly opened up from the government-imposed restrictions, the AGI Group has also been at the forefront in providing a safer, better and more secure environment for our employees, tenants, customers, home dwellers, communities and other stakeholders," said Tan.

AGI counts as subsidiaries Emperador Inc., Megaworld Corp., Travellers International Hotel Group Inc., Golden Arches Development Corp., and Infracorp Development Inc.

The company reported a 15% climb in its profit in 2019 to P27.1 billion, after consolidated revenues rose to P180 billion.

"Our much-improved performance last year has placed the AGI Group on a strong and healthy financial footing that served us well during this time of the coronavirus pandemic," said Tan.—AOL, GMA News
