PLDT: 5-day cable system maintenance to start Sept. 26, not Sept. 25

PLDT Inc. on Thursday issued an update to its earlier advisory on the conduct of emergency maintenance of one of its international cable systems starting for five days.

The Panglinan-led telco on Wednesday earlier said the five-day maintenance activity will start 8:00 a.m. on Friday, September 25, 2020, and finish on Wednesday, September 30, 2020. 

In its update, however, PLDT said the emergency maintenance activities on Asia-America Gateway (AAG) will begin on Saturday, September 26, 9 a.m. and end September 30, 5 a.m. (Philippine Standard Time).

“We wish to assure PLDT and Smart customers of continued internet connectivity all throughout. We have identified alternative cable systems to keep our connectivity resilient,” the telco said.

“We have also adopted measures such as traffic rerouting and local caching, ensuring that most frequently downloaded content are located in the Philippines,” it said.

PLDT noted that “no service will be denied, and internet traffic within the Philippines and to the US will not be impacted.”

“Students can still do their online studies and exams, and users in homes and businesses can go about their normal internet-based activities during this time,” it said. — Ted Cordero/BM, GMA News
