Converge ICT upgrades int'l uplink ports to meet surging demand

Internet provider Converge ICT Solutions Inc. said Wednesday it has recently completed a massive upgrade of its international uplink ports for IP Transit (IPT), Private Network Interconnect (PNI), and Internet Exchange (IX) connectivity to address surging demand for data.

In a statement, Converge ICT said the undertaking “aims to provide high availability for its internet services to ensure that customer connections can reach their content in the fastest possible way with the lowest latency.”

Ronald Brusola, Converge ICT chief technology officer, said that to improve connections, the first step was to complete the upgrade of its international border gateways in its foreign POPs (point of presence) to Terabit Class Routers with multiple 100Gbps (gigabit-per-second) uplinks.

Following this, the Uplink ports for IPT, PNI and IX have also been upgraded to 100Gbps ports, according to Converge ICT.

The company said it uses the Top Global ISPs (internet service providers), IXs (internet exchange points) and peers directly with the largest OTT (over-the-top) content providers.

Converge ICT chief operating officer Jesus Romero added that the completion of the company’s initiative means that Converge internet customers “will not only be assured of reaching content with the lowest latency, but also ensures sufficient uplink bandwidth to avoid congestion even when certain uplink providers go down.”

Converge ICT said it also has extensive domestic peering arrangements with other local Philippine providers including the government-sponsored Philippine Open Internet Exchange (PhOpenIX).

“This is on top of other recently completed initiatives such as the upgrade of the international backbone network to multiple diverse 100G links, as well as the recent upgrade of the Domestic Metro DWDM (dense wavelength division multiplexing) to 400Gbps waves, a first in the Philippines,” it said. —KBK, GMA News
