Greenfield: Other ISPs not barred from Mandaluyong condo

Greenfield Development Corp. (GDC) has denied that internet service providers (ISPs) aside from its subsidiary Leopard Connectivity Business Solutions Inc. are barred from providing services to residents of Twin Oaks Place (TOP) in Mandaluyong City, contrary to findings of the Philippine Competition Commission (PCC).

In an emailed statement, GDC chairman and chief executive officer Jeffrey Joseph D.Y. Campos said the company is now working with the anti-trust watchdog to address competition concerns, as it has not prohibited the entry of other ISPs to serve residents.

"Neither GDC nor Leopard sought to take advantage of any position of dominance arising from the parent-subsidiary relationship or from GDC's position as developer of TOP in respect of the provision of line internet services. No barrier was imposed to the entry of other telcos in TOP," he said.

The PCC has filed a Statement of Objections against Greenfield after it said the developer only allowed TOP residents to use the Twin oaks Place Fiber Network (TOPFN) managed by Leopard, which is also led by Campos who serves as its president.

According to the PCC, residents of TOP shared that they had no access to alternative ISPs despite higher prices and slower speeds being offered by Leopard -- P3,500 per month for 40 megabits per second (Mbps), almost the same price for 100 to 150 Mbps in other ISPs.

"GDC and Leopard will continue to be of service to the residents of TOP. GDC assures the residents of TOP that their interest, welfare, convenience, and comfort are its paramount consideration," said Campos. -MDM, GMA News
