Makati school taps 2 firms to launch music, sound design program

Makati-based school iACADEMY on Tuesday said it collaborated with audio giants Avid and Dolby to launch its Music Production and Design Program, which can improve students’ skills that would help in job hunting.

In an e-mailed statement, iACADEMY Professor Gerard Elviña said the program will also equip students on the latest digital technology for music production.

“The program was designed to nurture the creative talents of the students but also to familiarize them with the latest digital technology needed to become a successful professional in their preferred area of specialization,” said Elviña.

Elviña said the program was the first to be accredited by the Commission on Higher Education “to blend music and sound into one.”

“We are also being supported by Avid and Dolby with the tools to be used in learning. Lastly, we are proud to say that we have a 1:1 ratio for students per computer onsite (Avid Pro Tools) for learning,” Elviña also noted.

The United Kingdom company Dolby is known for its noise reduction systems and audio encoding as well as compression.

Meanwhile, Avid Technologies is an expert on audio and video and non-linear editing systems. Avid provides the Makati school with its Pro Tools, curriculum as well as certifications for its students.

Avid Technologies is constantly working with Dolby for years to “provide an immersive experience” with audio production.

“(Avid) Pro Tools can be used in such a wide variety of projects. Knowing how to use Pro Tools can give a student an edge when job hunting especially on proving his skills to a future employer,” Avid Learning Partner Manager for APAC Alex Brooke said.

iACADEMY also said the program will hone students’ skills for relevant careers in music such as Producer, Sound Designer, Systems Engineer, Field Recordist, Foley Artist, Musical Director, Audio Auditor, and Sound Consultant.

Job search site Indeed.com’s latest data showed that there are close to 4,000 vacant jobs and careers for music production.
