Travel time to and from two major business centers will be cut from one hour to five minutes once the Bonifacio Global City-Ortigas Center Link Road project is finished, Public Works Secretary Mark Villar said Wednesday.

This was his statement as he announced that the link road project will partially open on June 12 or the country’s Independence Day.

“We are connecting two cities, we are connecting two major centers, kung dati ang biyahe pwedeng umaabot ng isang oras baka mga 5 minutes na lang from Ortigas to Makati or Taguig,” Villar said in an ANC interview.

(Currently, it takes one hour to travel between these two cities but now we are looking at around 5 minutes from Ortigas to Makati or Taguig.)

The DPWH secretary said the road project is part of the EDSA decongestion plan.

It is expected to reduce traffic on EDSA by 20% to 25%. Traffic in C5 will also be reduced by 10% once the project is finished.

“We plan to open the main span by Independence Day, that is June 12. Once finished, it will significantly decongest EDSA,” he said.

The 1.367-kilometer Bonifacio Global City-Ortigas Center Link Road project is part of the Metro Manila Logistics Network which will cut the one-hour-long drive between the BGC and Ortigas business districts to 12 minutes.

The entire project, which will improve accessibility between cities of Pasig, Mandaluyong, Taguig, and Makati, and alleviate traffic congestion along EDSA and C-5, is targeted for full completion by September 2021.
