Ayala-led Globe Telecom Inc. warned the public that some of its modems are illegally being resold and passed off as Dito Telecommunity Corp.'s.

In a public advisory on Monday, Globe said it found that certain individuals and retail establishments are unlocking Globe At Home wifi modems and substituting their SIMS with a Dito Telecom SIM.

The trademarks of the Globe At Home modem are then concealed with a sticker of Dito, making them appear as modems of the Dennis Uy-led telco.

"We are prepared to take the necessary legal action against these unscrupulous individuals and establishments carrying out these deceptive business practices, through the assistance of law enforcement authorities," Globe said.

Globe also called on the public to report any leads on the matter to the Consumer Protection Group of the Department of Trade and Industry.

"In addition, we are reminding the public to buy only from legitimate Globe At Home stores, authorized dealers, and online sites to ensure quality and service guarantee," it said.

to the public.

Dito warned to take legal action against individuals or establishments found to be involved in the unauthorized use of the Dito brand.

"It has come to our attention that there are so-called Dito-branded modems that are being sold online," Dito chief administrative officer Adel Tamano said.

"Let me take this opportunity to assure the public that the unauthorized use of the Dito branding in any form shall result in the possibility of prosecution for copyright infringement," he added.

Dito officially launched commercial services in March, in pilot areas in the Visayas and Mindanao. It expanded to the National Capital Region in May.

Just last week, Dito said it has around 890,000 subscribers and targets to cover 150 cities and municipalities by the end of the month.

Shares in Globe are trading up 1.30% or P24.00 at P1,865.00 apiece as of 10:46 a.m. versus last Friday's finish of P1,841.00.

Meanwhile, shares in Dito CME Holdings Corp., the holdings company for Uy's communications, media, and entertainment businesses, are trading down 9 centavos or 0.94% at P9.51 apiece versus last Friday's finish of P9.60.  —KBK, GMA News
