San Miguel Corp.’s fuel unit Petron Corp. has assured stable supplies in the Visayas and Mindanao regions, as the firm is seeking to reopen damaged service stations in areas affected by Typhoon Odette (international name: Rai).

According to Petron, all its import facilities and terminals in VisMin have been operational since Saturday, December 18, but several stations are still closed as they are being assessed for damage and undergoing repairs.

“One thing’s for sure, we have enough product inventory to serve the needs of our kababayans [countrymen] in Visayas and Mindanao. Our biggest challenge however is quickly and safely reopening damaged service stations,” Petron president and chief executive officer Ramon Ang said in an emailed statement.

“Despite limitations, all our teams are working hard to address this. We ask for our countrymen’s understanding. We know there are long lines at service stations, so we’re working with utmost urgency to ease the situation,” he added.

Ang said Petron stations in operation in the Visayas and Mindanao are using gensets to ensure that they can continue to provide services to the public.
