Singaporean data center provider SpaceDC plans $700-M facility in Cainta

Singapore-based data center provider SpaceDC is looking to invest over $700 million for a green facility in Cainta targeted to open within the year.

According to SpaceDC, the facility will be located in a 43,000 square meter property in Cainta, making it the country’s biggest hyperscale data center campus.

Dubbed as MNL1, the facility will be powered with wind and geothermal energy, and deliver 72 megaways of critical power with an outstanding power usage effectiveness of 1.3, with a bid to minimize carbon footprint.

“We are excited to be a first mover in a new market where we see our customers are investing heavily in,” SpaceDC chief executive Darren Hawkins said in an emailed statement.

Based on its company profile on its website, SpaceDC has over 60 years of experience in designing, building, and operating facilities across the globe.

“The Philippines ranks second in terms of data center growth in Southeast Asia. With only 47MW of available capacity in the country it is a dramatically underserved market,” Hawkins said.

SpaceDC is working with real estate services firm JLL as its local partner, which is involved in building, occupying, and investing in assets including industrial, commercial, retail, residential, and hotel real estate.

“SpaceDC is in the right place at the right time to take advantage of the strong customer interest we are seeing in the Philippines,” JLL Data Center Services executive director Ralph Davidvon said in the same statement.

“MNL1’s design is setting new standards in terms of technology, quality, and operational excellence in the Philippines,” he added.—AOL, GMA News
