Maynilad, Manila Water preparing measures as Angat Dam water level dips

By JOVILAND RITA,GMA News

Maynilad Water Services, Inc. and Manila Water Company, Inc. are preparing measures to mitigate the impact on customers of the low water level in Angat Dam.

Interviewed on GMA News’ Unang Balita on Wednesday, Maynilad corporate communications head Jennifer Rufo said they have been coordinating with the National Water Resources Board (NWRB) and Metropolitan Waterworks and Sewerage System (MWSS) to address the possible effect of the low water level.

“Meron naman po tayong pinaghahandaan na mga measures diyan in coordination with NWRB and MWSS dahil alam po natin lower than expected 'yung water level sa Angat Dam sa ngayon. So meron po tayong inihain na mitigation measures,” she said.

(We have been preparing some measures for that in coordination with NWRB and MWSS because we know that the water level in Angat Dam is lower than expected now. So we placed mitigation measures.)

Rufo said Maynilad is setting up four modular treatment facilities in different areas and activating some deep wells to add more water supply that can be distributed to customers.

According to her, these projects will be completed before the dry season.

Meanwhile, Manila Water said its treatment facilities and deep wells are on standby in case the low water level in Angat Dam, which supplies around 96% of water needs of Metro Manila, will affect its supply.

According to a report on Unang Balita, the NWRB said the water level in Angat Dam may dip to its critical level at 180 meters in April.

As of 6 a.m. on Wednesday, PAGASA's data showed that the water level in Angat Dam was at 195.79 meters, which is 16 meters below its normal high water level of 212 meters. —KG, GMA News
