Customs exceeds April 2022 collection goal by over P10 billion

The Bureau of Customs (BOC) has surpassed its collection target for the month of April by over P10 billion or 19.6%.

In a statement on Wednesday, the BOC reported a total collection of P65.7 billion last month against a goal of P54.9 billion, posting a collection surplus of P10.769 billion.

Citing a preliminary report from its Financial Service, the Customs said 14 out of the 17 collection districts hit their targets, namely the Ports of San Fernando, Port of Manila, MICP, Batangas, Legaspi, Iloilo, Cebu, Cagayan de Oro, Zamboanga, Davao, Subic, Clark, Aparri, and Limay.

In March, the agency recorded its highest monthly revenue collection in its history with P70 billion collection for the period.

The Customs attributed its collection performance to the “improved valuation, intensified enforcement against illegal importations, and the improved compliance by traders to customs laws.”

The BOC is the government’s second largest revenue-generating agency next to the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR).

For the past two years, the agency said it was able to surpass its annual target collection by 6.23% and 4.35% respectively even during a global health crisis. —Ted Cordero/KG, GMA News
