Converge ICT upgrades speed from 50 to 100 Mbps for free

By TED CORDERO,GMA News

Fixed broadband service provider Converge ICT Solution Inc. is upgrading the internet speed of its entry-level subscribers at no cost.

In a statement on Wednesday, Converge ICT said that starting June 1, all FiberX Plan 1500 subscribers will automatically have their speeds upgraded from 50 megabits per second to 100Mbps.

To verify the upgraded speed, FiberX Plan 1500 subscribers are advised to simply run a speed test via the Ookla website or app to see the double speeds.

FiberX Plan 1500 subscribers cover 80% of Converge ICT’s total 1.8 million subscribers as of the first quarter of 2022.

“Today, we are pleased to announce that we are doubling the speed of our base plan for existing and potential subscribers. With this, we will be able to give our kababayans a better experience for everyday productivity,” said Jesus Romero, chief operations officer of Converge.

Converge ICT said the FiberX Plan 1500 speed upgrade is permanent and there is no need for existing subscribers to reapply.

As of early this year, the company reported it has laid down over 500,000 kilometers of total fiber assets, expanding its pure fiber network across the country.

On top of this, Converge ICT said it has doubled the data transmission capacity of its metro backbone from 400 gigabits per second (Gbps) wavelengths to 800Gbps.

The company said this will allow its users to make full use of the company's connections to the content distribution networks, peering partners, and other international exchanges, easily doubling the bandwidth they have for any of their online activities. —LBG, GMA News
