Meralco: 1.226M customers hit by momentary interruptions due to Typhoon Karding

The Manila Electricity Co. (Meralco) said power interruptions due to Typhoon Karding (international name: Noru) have affected over 1.226 million customers as of Monday morning.

Meralco said momentary and sustained power interruptions affected 1.226 million customers across its franchise area since Sunday, September 25, 2022.

As of 6 a.m. on Monday, there were some 51,773 customers affected by the interruptions, with the majority located in Bulacan, Rizal, and Marikina.

“Our crews continue to work round the clock in order to restore power at the soonest possible time,” it said in an advisory sent to reporters.

given the possible power outages due to Karding.

Meralco constructs, operates, and maintains electric distribution systems in the cities and municipalities of Bulacan, Cavite, Metro Manila, and Rizal, as well as certain areas in the provinces of Batangas, Laguna, Pampanga, and Quezon.

Latest data available from the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) indicate that several transmission lines were unavailable as of 9 a.m. on Monday.

These include the Cabanatuan-San Luis 69kV Line, the Cabanatuan-Fatima 69kV Line, the Cabanatuan-San Isidro 69kV Line, the Cabantuan-Bulualto 69kV Line, the Concepcion-Camiling 69kV Line, the Hermosa-Floridablance 69kV Line, and the Famy-Comon 69kV Line.

Four 230kV lines were also unavailable as of 9 a.m., particularly the Mexico-Hermosa Line, the San Rafael-Cabanatuan Line, the Pantabangan-Cabanatuan Line, and the Mexico-Concepecion Line.

The center of the eye of Karding was spotted at 190 kilometers west of Dagupan City in the 8 a.m. bulletin of PAGASA, leaving a tropical cyclone wind signal (TCWS) No. 2 over parts of Pangasinan and Zambales. — RSJ, GMA News
