Filipino exec appointed as regional CFO of airasia super app

A Filipino financial technology and aviation leader has been appointed as the regional chief financial officer (CFO) of Kuala Lumpur-based airasia super app.

In a statement, budget carrier AirAsia said Raymund Cauilan Berja has been tapped as airasia super app’s regional head for tax, compliance, and procurement apart from being its CFO.

The airline said Berja is the first Filipino to be appointed as the regional CFO of airasia super app —the Southeast Asian carrier’s digital lifestyle platform launched in 2020.

AirAsia said Berja will oversee the management of the airasia super app’s finances in all of the territories it operates in, namely: the Philippines, Malaysia, Thailand, and Indonesia; tech support operations in India; and expansions in Vietnam, Singapore, and South Korea.

The Filipino executive will continue with his role as the managing director and country head of airasia super app Philippines.

Berja was also the CFO of AirAsia Philippines from 2019 to June 2022.

"I see this opportunity to bring in work ethic, values, expertise, and a collaborative mindset influencing our five-year business plan and strategy in terms of growth and expansion," he said.

"My goal is to provide a strong foundation for airasia super app to sustain growth momentum and positive EBITDA, as well as to implement stronger [financial] governance and compliance, [and] disciplined fiscal management through the efficient and effective allocation of resources across [the] line of businesses while balancing new product launches and expansion to new markets." — VBL, GMA News
