EDC asks public not to share graphic images of ill-fated Cessna plane, passengers

By SUNDY LOCUS,GMA Integrated News

The Energy Development Corporation (EDC) on Friday urged the public to refrain from sharing graphic photos and videos of the ill-fated Cessna plane and its passengers out of respect for the bereaved families.

In a statement, the firm thanked the government and civilian rescue teams that helped in the search and rescue operations of the Cessna 340 aircraft (RP-C2080), which went missing in Albay last weekend.

The bodies of its four passengers, who had been identified as EDC employees and consultants, were discovered at the accident site close to the Mayon Volcano crater.

"Now that the search and rescue has shifted to retrieval and we expect photo and video shots of the plane wreckage and the passengers to be taken by [the] government for documentation purposes, we kindly appeal to all to refrain from publicly sharing on social media and other platforms all related images, especially of the passengers, out of respect for their bereaved families and friends who are grieving for the loss of their loved ones," the ERC said.

It also said they stand united with the families "in requesting that only good photos of the passengers from their public [lives] be shown.”

"We have released such photos to the media and through our social media pages to be used for everyone to be reminded of the beautiful people that they are. We hope for your kind understanding and full support on this most delicate matter," the firm added.

On February 18, the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) said Bicol International Airport air traffic controllers lost contact with the plane carrying four people — the pilot, a crew member, and two passengers.

CAAP said the plane departed Bicol International Airport at 6:43 a.m.

Air traffic controllers last contacted the aircraft at 6:46 a.m., when the plane was approaching the Camalig Bypass Road at an altitude of 2,600 feet.

The plane was expected to arrive in Manila at 7:53 a.m.  — VBL, GMA Integrated News
