The Philippine Deposit Insurance Corporation on Feb. 15 started paying deposit insurance claims against the defunct Rural Bank of Calubian Inc., according to the the state-owned insurer. “PDIC assured depositors that it will pay all valid deposit insurance claims as soon as possible,” the deposit insurance company said in a statement.   The claims settlement operations (CSO) were being held at Sta. Filomena St., Barangay Espinosa in Calubian, Leyte, until Feb. 28, the deposit insurer noted.   Depositors failing to file their claims during the on-site CSO may file their claims on March 9 at PDIC’s main office at 4/F SSS Building, 6782 Ayala Avenue, Makati City.   “Depositors of RB Calubian have until December 16, 2013 to file their claims. Beyond the said deadline, PDIC, as deposit insurer, will no longer accept any claim for insured deposits,” according to PDIC.   Earlier, PDIC mailed a Notice of Payments to depositors with maximum account balances of P10,000. Those who did not receive a letter should proceed to the CSO site.   Account holders with balances of more than P10,000 should set an appointment at the Calubian bank before proceeding to the CSO site.   The bank insurance company took over the bank last year after the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas started its campaign against problematic banks. — RRD/VS, GMA News
