The results of the National Telecommunications Commission’s (NTC) benchmark test for Smart Communications Inc.’s mobile networks were confirmed in another test commissioned by Nokia Siemens Networks (NSN), Smart’s network supplier for Metro Manila and conducted by an independent third party. NSN hired British firm AIRCOM International to run a series of mobile network quality benchmark tests on Smart’s network from Oct. 29-31. The test used the same routes used in the NTC benchmark test as well as in all major points along the Metro Rail Transit (MRT) station. The drive test results show Smart outperforming the rest of the market in all five major key performance indicators for voice and data, with Smart's call success rate at 98.9 percent versus 96.3 percent for its market peers. Smart garnered the highest speed test downlink result at Buendia Station with 7.42Mbps, as well as the highest speed test uplink result at Cubao Station with 2.85Mbps. However, Smart’s competition got the speed test highest downlink of 3.66Mbps at Kamuning Station, and highest uplink at 0.36Mbps in several stations. For mobile data, Smart outperformed the rest of mobile market for speed test downlink in 12 out of 16 MRT stations, as well as in all 16 out of 16 MRT stations for speed test uplink, for file transfer protocol (FTP) downlink and FTP uplink. — BM, GMA News
