Duterte says Indian execs also interested in PHL telco industry

President Rodrigo Duterte on Tuesday said he invited Indian businessmen to invest in the country's telecommunications industry.

"India is also interested to enter the telecom industry. We are considering and invited them in my talks with the businessmen of India during my official visit," Duterte said in a speech during the induction ceremony for the new officials of the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce Philippines, Inc. (FICCI) in Malacañang.

Duterte went to New Delhi in late January. There, he raised security concerns in the Asia Pacific region and received investment pledges amounting to $1.25 billion.

The Department of Trade and Industry said the investment pledges were in the fields of pharmaceutics, information technology, energy, tourism, medical wellness and business processing management.

Duterte assured Indian businessmen that he would run after corrupt officials in government.

"As long as you pay the right taxes, just the exact price, no more, no less, then you are free of any interventions or trouble. That is the assurance I will give you. Everybody will be protected and I will go after those persons in government who are still into corruption," the President said.

"We are here to invite you, to protect you. Just do the right thing. Pay the right taxes and you are freed. That is now me talking to you," he added.

Duterte also encouraged them to report corrupt practices to his office. —NB, GMA News
