Manila to be NCR's richest city in 3 years —Mayor Isko

Manila is expected to be the richest city in the entire National Capital Region by 2022, according to City Mayor Francisco "Isko Moreno" Domagoso.

"You need to know that three years from now, we will be the richest city in the entire Metro Manila," Moreno told investors during a business forum at the Manila Polo Club on Friday.

According to the mayor, Manila will be getting a hefty share of income from the Bureau of Customs, and they expect a "P90-billion windfall" within the next few years.

The mayor cited a 2018 Supreme Court ruling that widened the base of local government units' shares in the country's taxes

"It's a Supreme Court decision with finality. So meron na kaming kita sa port operation. And, remember, marami kaming port," he said.

As of a 2017 Commission on Audit report, Makati City replaced Quezon City as the country's richest city.

Hoping to reel in more investments, Moreno said: "Sinasabi ko sa inyo: Yayaman ang Maynila."

He added, "Hindi siya dream because it's based on facts." —Margaret Claire Layug/KG, GMA News
