Lazada vows to cooperate with PDEA probe of drug paraphernalia sold online


E-commerce giant Lazada on Thursday said that it would to work with the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency in its investigation of the alleged sale of drug paraphernalia on its online shopping platforms.

"Lazada will cooperate with any investigation, once we have been approached by authorities," the company said in a statement.

A licensed pharmacist and a registered nurse, who were nabbed by the  PDEA  in separate operations in Pasig and Quezon City, both said that they bought tooters from an online shopping site.

"Lazada is aware that the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) is investigating alleged sales of drug paraphernalia on online shopping platforms," the company said.

"We take any concerns raised about products offered for sale by the merchants on our platform very seriously," it added.

The online shopping platform said merchants signified and declared that they were fully compliant with relevant and applicable local laws, regulations, and/or issuances.

"Lazada has in place various policies and procedures to protect the integrity of our platform and customers," it said.

"When there are any concerns about alleged prohibited goods, we have a strict Prohibited Goods Policy that the merchants are required to comply," it added. —NB, GMA News
