The National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA) is working with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) to develop a plan aimed at helping industries and small and medium enterprises affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.

This was disclosed by President Rodrigo Duterte in his sixth weekly report to Congress as mandated by the Bayanihan to Heal as One Act.

According to the President, the proposal aims to strengthen healthcare, safety systems, and capacities to respond to COVID-19 through production activities and support the recovery of the economy through MSME growth and resilience.

The proposal also covers socio-economic impact assessment and industrial policy advice.

The NEDA is also studying the possibility of adopting the UNDP’s COVID-19 integrated response which is hinged on three objectives: prepare, respond and recover.

Duterte also said the NEDA is reviewing the submissions of the government agencies in connection with the draft of the technical paper “We Recover as One,” which outlines the three phases of the government’s strategy against COVID-19: response, mitigation and transition to new normal.

“The IATF [Inter-Agency Task Force] shall share said paper with other government agencies and the Congress as a working paper for initiatives to rebuild consumer and business confidence as well as possible basis for the 2021 Budget Priorities Framework,” Duterte said.

The NEDA and Department of Finance were also working with the Asian Development Bank on the latter’s program to strengthen government efforts to curb the spread of COVID-19 including social protection and economic stimulus for affected sectors and industries, Duterte said.—AOL, GMA News
