Prices fluctuate at QC’s Commonwealth Market amid metro’s shift to GCQ

The prices of some products at the Commonwealth Market in Quezon City have risen amid Metro Manila's shift from a modified enhanced community quarantine (MECQ) to the less strict general community quarantine (GCQ).

Pork prices have gone up, with pork laman now priced at P220 per kilo after selling for P190 per kilo during the MECQ. Liempo, now sells for P230 per kilo, up from P220 previously.

According to vendor Marlyn Danis on Tuesday, African swine fever has also decreased the hog supply after thousands of the animals were culled and backyard piggeries were banned in several areas.

At another stall, dressed chicken was being sold at P130 per kilo, up from P100 per kilo during the enhanced community quarantine (ECQ).

Meanwhile, at Arabelle Flores' stall, the price of local well-milled rice has gone down to P35 per kilo at the cheapest, down from P39 pero kilo last week.

Bangus prices have gone up by P25 per kilo, regardless of size, with prices ranging from P90 to P120 per half-kilo.

Vendor Rowel Lozano says the price was affected by “trucking, yelo, bayad sa kargador.”

The price of tilapia, however, has gone down from P130 per kilo to P120 per kilo.
