Customs Bureau accredits 1,226 importers, brokers during ECQ

During the enhanced community quarantine period, which ended on May 31, the Bureau of Customs' Accounts Management Office (AMO) expedited the accreditation of 1,226 importers and 209 customs brokers.

The AMO also issued provisional accreditations pending results of actual inspections,  as well as revoked the accreditation of 182 non-compliant importers.

The inspections during the ECQ were simplified and involved only the verification that businesses or importers existed at submitted addresses through the presence of signages, which is a basic requirement for such businesses.

Several non-compliant importers were notified through electronic mail by the AMO of their deficiencies, with 25 importers requesting for re-inspections.

Sixteen such re-inspections were taken, and 12 importers were re-accredited on full compliance.

The BOC reminded stakeholders that they needed to comply with customs rules and regulations to avoid penalties and inconveniences. — DVM, GMA News
