DTI advises online sellers not to break public’s trust in e-commerce

The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) advised online sellers not to disappoint the public with the products they purchased through e-commerce as trust is fundamental to the industry.

Interviewed on GMA News’ Unang Balita on Monday, DTI Undersecretary Boy Vizmonte added that online sellers should be honest with the pricing and quality of their products.

“Sa e-commerce ang mahalaga talaga, building the trust. ‘Yung pagtitiwala ng publiko sa system ng e-commerce. So, huwag nating hayaan na madala ang ating publiko sa pagbibili nila through e-commerce,” he said.

Vizmonte reminded online sellers to display the price of their products when posting online. This is in observation of the Price Tag Law, he said.

DTI Secretary Ramon Lopez earlier warned online sellers who continue to ignore the price tag policy on the items they sell online that they could face fines or imprisonment if proven guilty.

Vizmonte also urged them to be truthful about the quality of their products to protect the interest of the consumers.

Aside from this, Vizmonte encouraged online sellers to comply with the necessary registration required such as with Food and Drug Administration, among others.

House Committee on Trade and Industry chairperson Wes Gatchalian is pushing for House Bill 6122 or the proposed Internet Transactions Act.

The bill aims to regulate the e-commerce industry as it seeks online selling platforms to register with the DTI and obtain a "trust mark" so that buyers will have confidence in transacting with them. —Joviland Rita/KG, GMA News
