DTI: Hair treatments to be allowed under GCQ; manicure, pedicure, massage OK in MGCQ areas

The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) on Saturday clarified what other services will be allowed to be offered by barbershops and salons under general community quarantine (GCQ) and modified general community quarantine (MGCQ).

In an interview on Dobol B sa News TV, Trade Secretary Ramon Lopez said services which can be offered by salons and barbershops will be expanded to “hair treatments” and “hair-related services” only in areas under GCQ.

On Friday, presidential spokesperson Harry Roque announced that the Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases has allowed, in principle, the gradual resumption of other services provided by salons and barbershops

“'Yung mga pedicure, manicure, antayin muna po ang guidelines, bagamat in principle papayagan po 'yan. Antayin lang natin ang guidelines ng DTI,” Roque said.

Lopez said the DTI will release the memorandum circular governing the expanded services of salons and barbershops within the day.

To recall, the DTI has allowed salons and barbershops to reopen beginning June 7 in GCQ areas, but their services are limited to haircuts.

The Trade chief noted that “‘yung manicure, pedicure, massage ang hindi muna natin papayagan [sa GCQ] dahil ‘yun po ay para sa modified general community quarantine na po.”

Barbershops and salons are allowed at 30% operating capacity in areas under general community quarantine and at 50% operating capacity in areas under modified general community quarantine.

Lopez said there will be no changes in the health protocols in the said establishments as part of measures to prevent the further spread of COVID-19. —Ted Cordero/KG, GMA News
