Customs seizes P66.2 million worth of fake cigarettes in Subic

The Bureau of Customs seized two shipments of smuggled fake cigarettes worth P66.2 million at the Port of Subic.

In a statement, the bureau said on May 19, a forty-footer container declared as footwear consigned to RNRS Trading arrived at the port.

Another shipment of cartons film consigned to Heybronze Non-Specialized Wholesale Trading arrived at the port on the same day.

The BOC said both shipments underwent physical examination which yielded the discovery of various fake cigarettes bearing the brands Marvels Menthol, Marvels Filter, Two Moon Filter, Two Moon Menthol, Fort Menthol 100’s, Mighty Menthol, Champion and Jackpot.

Warrants of seizure and detention were issued on May 28 against the shipments for alleged violation of the National Tobacco Administration Memorandum Circular No. 03, NTA Board Resolution No. 079-2005, Republic Act 8293 or the Intellectual Property Code of the Philippine, and RA No. 10863 or the Customs Modernization and Tariff Act. — Ma.
